Decks

Materials used for deck-building are:

Pressure Treated Wood

Also known as preservative-treated wood, infused with a variety of preservative to prevent rot and insect infestation when used in deck building. Pressure treated lumber is ideal for outdoor construction as it has a useful life span twice as long than redwood and cedar and is much less expensive. In some cases pressure-treated wood can last more than 40 years. The treatment process involves forcing waterborne chemicals into the wood by creating a vacuum. The process of pressure treatment evenly penetrates the board which is much more effective than a dipped, brushed, or spray treatment which is more likely to filter through the surfaces as it dries.

Cedar

If you ask our professional staff, we would say that cedar is a really great choice for deck building. Cedar is naturally resistant to decay and insect damage with out the need of going through chemical treatment. Cedar has a unique preservative oil, which simply means that no further treatment of the deck material is needed, unless the deck is in direct contact with the ground. Cedar’s thermal properties allow it to stay cool to the touch in summer heat. Cedar has beautiful color, grain and texture. In short, it ages well and looks great.
